Two Island Houses

The Two Island Houses in Lefkada is a residential design for the island’s southern coastline. The project combines contemporary forms with local materials, placing the houses along the natural slope and opening domestic life toward the sea.

01 / Architecture and Materials

Rectilinear volumes respond to the terrain.

Stone-clad walls reference local building traditions, while smooth white stucco gives the composition geometric clarity. Their contrasting textures establish a relationship between the architecture and its coastal setting.

02 / Indoor and Outdoor Living

Expansive glazing connects living spaces with sea-facing terraces.

Broad cantilevered pergolas, draped in bougainvillea, provide shaded outdoor gathering areas. Bedrooms use selective openings to balance daylight with privacy, creating quieter spaces alongside the more open communal areas.

03 / Landscape and Environmental Design

The landscape strategy retains native vegetation and the character of the coastline, incorporating indigenous shrubs and olive trees.

Locally sourced stone and native planting support the project’s environmental aims. Pergola shading and cross-ventilation are conceived as passive strategies for comfort, making the relationship with climate part of the design.
