Reframe House

Reframe House transforms a traditional Whitestone residence into a home organized around light, spatial continuity, and contemporary family life. The renovation works with the existing structure, reconsidering the relationships between rooms and the ways the family moves through them. A previously compartmentalized interior becomes a connected setting for gathering, everyday routines, and retreat.

01 / Architectural Strategy

Selective removal and reconfiguration establish a central kitchen, dining, and family room sequence.

The design opens sightlines and simplifies circulation, giving the ground floor a clear organization. Formal and informal areas retain their own character through proportion and material changes within the connected plan.

The entry and stair hall are reconsidered as part of this spatial framework. Their relationship with adjoining rooms helps extend daylight into the interior and makes movement through the home easier to understand.

02 / Family Life and Private Spaces

The shared rooms support gathering and daily activity, while the upper floor provides a quieter setting.

The primary suite combines sleeping, dressing, and bathing within a more private retreat. Children’s rooms incorporate tailored arrangements and built-in storage.

Reorganized bathrooms and a centralized laundry area improve the practical operation of the home. These changes connect the larger architectural idea with the repeated tasks of everyday living.

03 / Materiality and Interior Expression

White oak, natural stone, and neutral tones establish warmth and continuity.

Engineered oak flooring connects the rooms, while custom cabinetry and millwork integrate storage with the architecture. Marble and quartzite introduce variations in texture and depth in the kitchen and bathrooms.

Paneling gives selected rooms additional definition. Recessed, cove, and decorative lighting work together to support different activities and atmospheres, bringing another layer of articulation to the interiors.

04 / Working With the Existing

The project’s central idea is a change in how an existing home is experienced.

The retained structure becomes the framework for a more coherent interior, with clearer connections between shared and private spaces. Reframe House demonstrates the potential of renovation to reshape domestic life through considered changes to layout, detail, and material.
