Hillside Stone Villas

The Hillside Stone Villas is a development of three residences above Karavomylos on Kefalonia. Low stone-clad volumes follow the sloping terrain, establishing a close relationship between dwelling and landscape. The design uses the hillside to organize the ensemble and open each home toward the Ionian Sea.

01 / Architecture and Spatial Organization

Terraced levels distinguish private rooms from shared living areas.

Shaded verandas extend the interiors outdoors, while exterior stairs connect the villas with garden terraces and pools below. The arrangement balances sea views with privacy between neighboring residences, giving each home its own relationship with the site.

02 / Materiality

Local stone, timber pergolas and recessed glazing establish a restrained palette.

Stone grounds the volumes in their setting; timber and glass bring texture and openness to the composition. The architectural language interprets local building traditions through simple forms, proportion and the changing play of light across surfaces.

03 / Landscape

Stone paths and retaining walls extend the buildings into the terrain.

The landscape strategy preserves existing vegetation where possible and supplements it with native planting. Architecture and outdoor spaces are conceived together, allowing terraces, circulation and planting to mediate between the villas and the hillside.
